Samuel B. Tove was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on 1921 July 29. He graduated with a B.S. in animal husbandry from Cornell University in 1943, and received an M.S. and Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1948 and 1950. Tove joined the faculty at the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1950, beginning as a research assistant professor.
